Origin

Rumor has it that this famous cocktail owes its name to Elton John’s hit song: Nikita.  Both came out and were stars in 1985.

This Nikita cocktail is one of the many known and famous drink typical to Madeira Island.  The others are Poncha, Madeira Wine, Rum, Coral and the nice table wines.

It is warm outside.  You are just back from one of the many amazing activities available on Madeira.  Alternatively, you could be chilling at the Clube Naval of Seixal.  Then again, you might be relaxing at a tavern after a day filled with sightseeing, levada walks or even shopping.  Whichever…  it is always a good time to try a Nikita.

A Nikita is sweet, cold and exotic!  It makes for a nice refreshing break.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 liter of pineapple juice. If you cannot find real pineapple juice, you can use a Sumol Ananas (slightly fizzy) Sumol ananas
  • Vanilla Ice-cream – 6 scoops
  • 2 slices of fresh pineapple (plus one quarter slice for decoration
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar (I usually try to use only one)
  • Alcohol – some recipes call for a mixture of both, others ask you to choose between them. I personally use only white wine
